Three friends – Michael Rinaldi (a physicist), Stephanie (his archaeologist wife), and Daniel O’Hagan (a documentary filmmaker) – start out to make a documentary about the famed and controversial Shroud of Turin. During the course of their research, they uncover evidence that Dr. Patrick Kellerman, an eminent physicist who had studied the Shroud and whose death 20 years earlier had been ruled a suicide, had actually been murdered.
They further realize that Kellerman had been on the verge of unlocking an extraordinary mathematical sequence encoded deep within the weave of the Shroud’s ghostly image. He knew that if he could extract and harness this numerical code (which he dubbed “The Resurrection Sequence”), he would be able to control the behavior of subatomic, or quantum, particles in living human tissue, and thus heal almost any disease instantly. But before he could accomplish his task, he was murdered by people covetous of the technology.
Now, almost twenty years later, Michael, Stephanie, and Daniel come to realize that the mathematical values Kellerman had scanned from the Shroud of Turin represent only half of the true Resurrection Sequence.
The remaining half, they discover, is encoded on a long lost archaeological treasure known as the Mandylion … the prayer shawl of Jesus of Nazareth. In order to complete the Sequence and create any possible technologies, they must now locate the Mandylion, which was hidden away by its keepers almost 2,000 years ago.
Thus they begin their quest, embarking on a harrowing journey through some of the world’s most spectacular settings, all the while being doggedly pursued by a host of mysterious, powerful, and dangerous enemies. In this high-stakes game of cat and mouse, everyone clearly understands that whoever possesses the Mandylion will hold the keys to unimaginable power.
